Valve operating lever for internal combustion engine

The operating lever (4) has a substantially elliptical work face (5) engaging with a cam of a camshaft. It has a restriction (8) in the area (6) associated with the basic circle of the cam. The lever can have at least one recess (10) aligned parallel with the work face. The surface pressure between lever and cam during operation of the engine is constant and slight so that work face of lever at this point can be reduced.
