The part of the bearing shell (2) supporting the surface of the joint ball (1a) below the equator (1b) of the ball is divided into at least two sections (2a). These form a ball race-shaped bearing surface (2a'). The sections are pivoted to a limited amount via film hinges (2b), to permit passage of the joint ball. The bearing shell is divided into two halves. These are connected via a film hinge extending at right angles to the joint axis. The shell engages positively with its jacket on the joint housing (3).
