An input device is described for generating a keystroke signal. A dome (130, 80, 80') shaped to conform to the shape of a human hand at rest is supported to slide along a generally planar base top (204, 704'). The position of the dome (30, 80, 80') on the base top (204, 704'), which is divided into sectors (122, 123, 125, 126, 216, 706), is sensed, each sector (122, 123, 125, 126, 216, 706) correlatable with a keystroke signal. A system is also provided for outputting two position signals that are then correlatable into a unitary keystroke signal.
