A contact-making device for contacting sheathed conductors complete with their insulation and including a contact pin (15) in which, in order to make contact, the contact pin (15) pierces the conductor under a contact force. The conductor is designed as a circular conductor (9) which is fixed by equipping the contacting device with a retaining device the receiving aperture of which automatically adapts to the dia. of the circular conductor as it is inserted into the aperture. The retainer includes a spring element (6) for supporting the circular conductor (9) at its lateral surface and which laterally springs back out as the contact pin (15) pierces the conductor (9).
