<p>A radio communications system (200) that utilises multiple cells (201, 203, 205) to provide radio communication services to a plurality of mobile stations (405, 407). In the cells (201) that service high concentrations of mobile stations within a very small geographic area, such as large office buildings (207), there are provided a plurality of radio frequency (RF) capsules (209) within the geographic area serviced by the cell (201). In addition to having a base site (300) for providing a Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH), the cell (201) contains multiple RF capsules (313) for transmitting and receiving traffic channels as well as receiving Random Access Channel (RACH) bursts form a plurality of mobile stations in a portion of the geographic area serviced by the base site. The RF capsules (313) do not provide a BCCH, rather the BCCH is provided by a microcell transceiver (311) that is servicing the particular cell (201).</p> |
