<p>Disclosed is a lens for eyewear, the lens having a substantially elliptical cross section in a horizontal plane. A horizontal cross section of the lens may conform to an ellipse of eccentricity between about 0.10 and about 0.85, and the lateral ends define an elliptic arc of preferably at least about 140°. The lens may have any of a variety of configurations in the vertical planes, independent of the horizontal elliptical shape. Additionally, the lens may be of uniform thickness or of tapering thickness from a relatively thicker medial portion to thinner lateral portions. The elliptical lens of the present invention may be used in unitary- or dual-lens eyewear.</p> |
