An image processing apparatus which displays a guidance and allows a user to set the operating environment of an application program, when the operating environment required for the application program differs from the ability of a computer system. The image processing apparatus comprises a CD-ROM drive (8) which loads the application program, a processing unit (2) which executes the application program and forms a video signal, and a display (3) which displays the video signal. The processing unit (2) comprises decision unit (211) for checking whether the processing unit (2) has achieved the operating environment required for the application problem, display control (212) for displaying the guidance on the display (3) on the basis of the result of the decision made by the decision unit (211), and setting unit (213) capable of setting the operating environment of the application program in the processing unit (2).
