A biodegradable plastic composition in which the carrier resin (A) is chemically bonded to the starch component (B) comprises, by weight. (A) 100 parts carrier resin comprising polyethylene and a biodegradable aliphatic polyester at weight ratio 1: 1-30; (B) 10-150 parts starch; (C) 0.01-40 parts starch plasticiser; (D) 0.01-10 parts starch destructuriser; (E) 0.01-10 parts coupler; (F) 0.01-10 parts radical initiator; and (G) 0.01-10 parts auto-oxidiser. Also claimed is preparation of above biodegradable composition by (i) feeding components (A), (E) and (F) into the main inlet of an extruder and components (B), (C), (D) and (G) into a side inlet; and (ii) mixing and extruding the components at 150-220 deg C and at 50-300 rpm screw speed.
