The invention concerns a device for clamping the trunk of a Christmas tree or the like, the device comprising a stand having at least three clamping jaws (5) which are disposed in a base plate (1) having an opening (2) for receiving the trunk, are distributed about the opening (2), and can be moved in order to clamp the trunk in the opening (2). In order to adapt the clamping jaws (5) easily to the cross-section of the trunk, secure the latter reliably with a small stroke and be able to release or cancel the clamping effect easily, the base plate (1) is associated with a closure device which can move in two opposite directions. In one direction, the closure moves the clamping jaws (5) out of the opening (2) and, in the other direction, it first releases the clamping jaws (5) so that they can move into abutment on the trunk and then urges the clamping jaws (5) against the trunk with the necessary degree of clamping force.
