The detector has a rotating element (10), magnetised circumferentially with alternate differing magnet poles (NS), which rotates around an axis of rotation. A magnetoresistive element (30) is arranged lying opposite the magnetising section of the rotating element. The magnetoresistive element has a linear structured super grid structure (34) consisting of alternate layers of magnetic and non-magnetic metals. A signal processing circuit (40) is arranged at a distance from the magneto resistive element (30), in order, based on the alteration of the resistance value, due to the alteration in the intensity of a magnetic field of the rotating element, to produce a sequence of pulse signals.
