The monitoring unit has a pressure measuring element for measuring the air pressure ruling in the tyre, which transmits a tyre pressure signal. This is evaluated in an evaluation unit, which activates a warning signal, if the tyre pressure fails to reach a minimum value. A correction element is provided, which corrects the tyre pressure signal dependent on the temperature. The correction element is subjected to the temperature ruling outside the tyre. The tyre pressure limit value is established in the form of an indicating pressure, which is a function of the temperature ruling outside the tyre. The indicating pressure represents a nonlinear function.
