Process to treat infestations of, e.g. wooden objects, textiles and books, by oxygen removal, is new. The space to be treated (1) is filled with an inert gas such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide and/or argon, which is conditioned, in the manner of air conditioning. On completing the treatment, the gas atmosphere has the same temperature and relative humidity as the air surrounding the volume (1).
