Balancing strut for flap member

The strut may be of variable length between two opposed end points and comprises two operatively interconnected yoke members (15,15a) that are formed by loops that are elongate in the longitudinal direction of the strut. Each loop of each yoke is turned through 90 deg relative to the loop of the other yoke member. The loops cooperate to bound a cavity between the yoke members. The yokes are then relatively displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the strut but secure against relative rotation. A tension spring (20) closely surrounds the yoke members. A damping element (19) may be arranged in the cavity.
