The invention relates to a process for the preparation of optically active amines of the formula (I*), in which R and m have the meanings given in the description. In the present process the preparation of said amines is such that (a) in a first stage, racemic amines of the formula (I) are reacted, in the presence of lipases from Candida antarctica and optionally in the presence of a diluent, with esters of the formula (II), in which R<1>, R<2>, X and n have the meanings given in the description; (b) in a second stage the resulting mixture of (S)-amine of the formula (I-S) and acylated (R)-amine of the formula (III) is separated.
