A frame for a vehicle seat comprises two side elements 12, 13 interconnected by a rigid top piece 17. One element 12 has an upwardly extending portion 18 defining a slot 19 through which a seat belt passes. The retractor for the seat belt is within the first element 12. In one embodiment the frame is reinforced with an initially untensioned wire 21 which extends diagonally across the frame in such a way that if a force is applied to the extension 18 of the first side element 12 by the seat belt and the frame tends to 'lozenge', the wire 21 becomes tight thus preventing lozenging. In a further embodiment the reinforcing means comprises of two reinforcing elements (fig.4; 23, 25) which extend from a central position on a transversely extending frame element to positions on adjacent side elements (fig 4; 12,13) of the frame.
