A device for restricting the opening of a window supported by a stay comprises a carriage 18, which may be an extension of slider 16 of the stay, and a subsantially L-shaped member 19 mounted about projections 24 in slots 25 on the carriage to allow pivoting and limited relative sliding movement therebetween. The short arm 20 of the member 19 is engagable in an opening 28 in the base 21 of the track, and upon engagement becomes stationary with respect to the track. The slider may continue to move for the length of the slots 25 allowing a wedge shaped overhang 27 on the slider to press the short arm into the opening. The short arm may be pivoted out of the opening by depression of the long arm 22 of the member 19 once the engagement of the overhang has been released by reverse movement of the slider. An upturned portion may be provided on the member 19 for depression by a link of the stay as the window is closed to ensure the short arm touches the base of the track.
