The anti-theft system (10) comprises an acoustic indicator for generating an alarm signal, a control unit (12, 32) for activating this indicator (11) upon the occurrence of predetermined conditions detected by sensors (14), and reprogrammable memory devices (26) operable to store a disablement time interval. The control unit (12, 32) can be conditioned by the memory devices (26) to disable the acoustic indicator (11) during the stored disablement time interval.
