Ink compositions containing liposomes

An ink composition comprises an aqueous liquid vehicle, a dye, and a vesicle-forming lipid, where the vesicles of the lipid are present in the ink. The vesicles have membranes of lipid molecules at least some of which are bonded to other lipid molecules in the membrane by a polymerisation process. Also claimed are: (1) preparation of an ink composition, comprising: (a) mixing water and a vesicle-forming lipid having functional group(s) capable of reacting with a reactive dye, causing vesicles of the lipid to form in the aqueous solution; and (b) admixing the aqueous solution with a reactive dye at alkaline pH, causing the dye to be covalently bonded to the lipid vesicles; (2) a printing process comprising incorporating into an ink jet printer the above ink composition and causing ink droplets to be ejected in imagewise pattern onto a substrate; and (3) a printing process comprising incorporating into an ink jet printer 2 ink compositions as above, causing droplets of the first ink to be ejected in imagewise pattern onto a substrate heated above 25[deg] C and subsequently causing droplets of the second ink to be ejected in imagewise pattern onto the heated substrate.
