The turntable has a series of processing stations (P1-P16) spaced at equal angles round it and is rotated step-by-step (1) by a drive. Each time through an angle equivalent to the interval between two stations. The drive consists of radial guides (2) and an arm (3) with a roller (4a,4b) at each end. The arm rotates about a fixed pivot (5) half way between the rollers, which engage in turn with the guides. The guides are in the form of radial corridors at the edge of the turntable, with the angles between successive guides equivalent to those of the processing stations. Each guide has a U-shaped cross-section, with side walls spaced so that the rollers can run between them with no risk of wedging. The rollers stay in the guides while the drive is stopped and leave it when it is re-started.
