<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce bisphenol F superior in the purity the quality in the production of highly pure bisphenil F by using phosphoric acid as a catalyst and capable of perfuming in a short time and perfectly the treatment for deactivation of the phosphoric acid catalyst remaining in the organic phase obtained by removing the aqueous phase after completion of the reaction. SOLUTION: This method for producing bisphenol F using an aqueous phospholic acid solution as a catalyst is carried out by reacting phenol with formaldehyde in a liquid-liquid heterogeneous system comprising an organic phase containing phenol and an aqueous phase containing an aqueous phosphoric acid solution, then adding a monovalent alkali metal hydroxide e.g. sodium hydroxide or the like, at a ratio of 1.05-2.0 equivalent based on the phosphoric acid existing in the organic phase obtained by removing the aqueous phase after completion of the reaction to the organic phase. As a result, the function of phosphoric acid as the catalyst existing in the organic phase is deactivated.</p> |
