PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the flexibility and the general-purpose performance and to save the cost by comparing program data listed up and stored with data at a current time so as to update the data efficiently. SOLUTION: Program information coded for a vertical blanking period VBI of plural stations is tuned by a tuning system 12 in terms of frequencies and converted into a video signal and an sound signal, and they are given to a TV program guide VBI decoder 16. A microprocessor 14 informs a format of the data and a channel at which the data are to be found out to a decoder 16 via a control line 24 and receives the program data and stores the data to a composite data memory 18. Furthermore, the data are generated for displaying the program data on a screen. When a television receiver is set in the channel selection mode, the television receiver is moved automatically to the channel listed up and stored via a composite data screen display CRT 20, where the data are compared with data at a current time thereby updating the data into newest program data efficiently and automatically.
