PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device which can widen a field angle with simple constitution without performing complicated driving control and complicated orientation processing. SOLUTION: On the top side of a liquid crystal display element 20, a diffusion plate 40 having diffusion characteristics varying in the scattering rate of light made incident along an incidence surface parallel to a specific direction as the tilt angle of the incidence surface to the normal of the said diffusion plate varies is provided so that the said specific direction crosses the plane containing the normal H of the liquid crystal display element 20 and a visual angle direction F at right angles. A back light 30 which is arranged behind the liquid crystal display element 20 is so constituted as to have maximum light intensity in a direction slanting at a specific angle to the visual angle direction F and its opposite direction to the normal H of the liquid crystal display element 20 and irradiate the diffusion plate 40 with light having the intensity distribution where the angle giving the maximum light intensity is within the scattering angle range of the diffusion plate 40. |
