PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation sheet which has excellent durability, exhibits a magnified visual field angle and is easily producible. SOLUTION: This optical compensation sheet is produced by providing the sheet with a transparent base 21, an oriented film 22 consisting of a polymer and an optical anisotropic layer 23 consisting of a liquid crystalline compd. in this order. In such a case, the polymer of the oriented film 23 and the liquid crystalline compd. of the optical anisotropic layer 23 are chemically bonded via the boundary of these layers. The element having this polymer layer is used for the formation of the optical compensation sheet and consists of a transparent base 21 and a polymer layer formed thereon. The polymer of the polymer layer described above consists of polyvinyl alcohol substd. in at least one hydroxyl group with a group having a vinyl part, oxysilanyl part or aziridinyl part.
