PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To show a predicted character string without newly providing a storage area or dictionary and to reduce the burden of input by retrieving an inputted character string from a document which is being prepared when part of the input string is inputted, and outputting the following character string as a candidate for a predicted character string. SOLUTION: When a prediction button is pressed, a predicting operation start part 100 informs a character string input part 101 of the start of a predicting process and a character string input part 101 takes a character string to be used for the predicting process out of a character buffer 102 and passes it to a retrieval control part 103. A character string retrieval part 105 receives a character string as a key for retrieval from a retrieval control part 3 and performs retrieval from an in-preparation document file 106 that a user is inputting. When the retrieval is successful, a constant-number character string taking- out part 107 takes the character string consisting of a certain number of characters behind the retrieval position out of the in-preparation document file 106. A retrieval control part 103 passes this character string to a predicted character string selection control part 109, so that the character string is displayed at a display part 108. |
