The basket catheter is not inserted into bile duct or gall bladder any further than the stone position to collect the stone from its bottom through the wire basket on its front tip. When catching the stone, the basket mouth is closed with the stone in it by the wire and is withdrawn with introducer attached to the basket. The catheter reduces likely pain, bleeding and complication in the course of removing the stone. The basket attached to the end of an introducer is formed of wires for expansion and shrinkage to have an octagonal mouth. The mouth is open or shut by manipulating a wire string for push and pull. The basket causes no abrasion on the bile duct wall in the course of insertion and withdrawal.
