PRODUCTION OF LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to inexpensively obtain a color display type liquid crystal display element having high reliability and good display performance by temporarily curing a colored layer with weak exposure wider than the intrinsic position and sufficiently curing the layer by using strong exposure from the rear surface of a transparent substrate. SOLUTION: Signal lines 11 are formed by known methods on the main surface of a color filter substrate 10 which is a glass substrate. The parts enclosed by these signal lines 11 and the scanning lines formed on the active matrix substrate oppositting this color filter substrate 10 are the apertures. A color filter material is subjected to weak exposure so that the material arrives at apertures which are the intrinsic forming parts of the color filters and the light shielding layers on their peripheries to form filters by temporary curing and are sufficiently cured by exposure with the light shielding films as a mask from the rear surface of the transparent substrate 10, by which the filters are formed in alignment to the apertures. Then, the colored layer 12 are formed only on the desired apertures, by which the accurate formation of the filters is made possible.
