PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain compactness so that weight balance can be improved, in the case of adopting a four-cycle engine for an outboard motor. SOLUTION: An outboard motor is formed in such a constitution that a crankshaft 16 of a four-cycle engine is set almost vertical at sailing time, a cylinder head is vertically mounted in a ship body so as to be positioned in a rear side from a crankcase 17. Here, a generator 47 is arranged to place its rotary shaft parallelly to the crankshaft 16 further with the end part facing an upper side, in a front side upper end part of the crankcase 17, a driven pulley 47b fixed to this rotary shaft is connected by a drive belt 50 to a drive pulley 51 secured to an upper side from a cam shaft drive member 33a of the crankshaft 16.
