PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reader in which the adjustment of a 3-line color sensor is simplified and an MTF of each color and a magnification are excellent even when the color aberration of lenses is comparatively larger. SOLUTION: An image of an original is formed on a 3-line color sensor 2 by a video image optical system 1 to read the image of the original by the color image reader. The image forming optical system 1 is so configured that an incident light to the 3-line color sensor 2 is to be lead almost perpendicularly to a face of the 3-line color sensor 2. In this case, the incident angle on the 3-line color sensor 2 from the image optical system 1 is decided to satisfy a relation of tanθ<P/D, whereθis the incident angle on the 3-line color sensor, P is a size of a picture element of the 3-line color sensor, and D is an adjustment width of the 3-line color sensor. The 3-line color sensor 2 may be tilted in a direction of a minor axis and in this case, the 3-line color sensor 2 is tilted around an optional line in the minor axis direction of the 3-line color sensor 2.
