In a method of making bodies by powder metallurgical methods comprising:(a) wet milling, in an alcohol-water solution, a powder mixture containing hard constituents of sizes up to 2 mu m (preferably up to 1 mu m); (b) spray-drying the milled mixture; (c) pressing the dried powder into bodies of the desired shape; and (d) sintering; 0.1-100 (preferably 1-50) g/l of a thickener selected from crosslinked acrylate emulsions, hydrophobic modified hydroxy ethylcellulose (HMHEC), styrene/maleic acid block copolymers, hydrophobic modified ethylene oxide/urethane (HEUR), xanthan polysaccharide (XPS), ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose (EHEC) and mixtures is added to the slurry between steps (a) and (b). Also claimed is a slurry for drying by spray drying containing a powder and a fluid containing thickeners as above. |
