The power factor correction circuit is connected after a bridge rectifier (1) supplied from the alternating current supply. The power factor correction operates with two capacitors (C1,C2), and has a charging path (D1,R1; D2,R2) for each capacitor. Successive capacitors have decreasing values and charging time constants. A switchable discharge path (K1,K2) is provided for each capacitor. A first control module (2,2') switches the first discharge path (K1) only after the passing of a peak in the alternating supply waveform. A second controller (3,3') closes the second discharge path (K2) after a predetermined delay following the closing of the previous discharge path. |
