The invention relates to an absorbent article, such as a diaper, a sanitary napkin or an incontinence pad, comprising an absorbent body (4) enclosed between a liquid-permeable wrapping layer (2) and a liquid-impermeable wrapping layer (3), whereby a barrier flap (18) is arranged over the liquid-permeable wrapping layer (2) along at least a portion of an edge (11-14) of the article. The barrier flap (18, 19) comprises at least one portion which is raisable from the liquid-permeable wrapping layer (2) by means of at least one raising flap (36, 37) which is arranged on the barrier flap (18, 19), whereby the raising flap (36, 37) comprises a first end which is fixedly secured to the barrier flap (18, 19) on the surface of the barrier flap (18, 19) which faces away from the liquid-permeable wrapping layer (2), and a second, free end which comprises a fastening means (38, 39), whereby the raising flap (36, 37) serves as raising means for the barrier flap (18, 19). |
