PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adopt a gas burner for an existing melting furnace as it is by forming an auxiliary flame independent from a main flame by providing a plurality of auxiliary flame holes, setting the diameter of the auxiliary flame hole to be 1/4 to 1/10 of a main flame hole, inclining a flame hole axis of the auxiliary flame hole to the outside, and setting the length of the auxiliary flame hole to be 5 to 15 times the diameter thereof. SOLUTION: A plurality (3 to 8 times) of auxiliary flame holes 3 are provided around a main flame hole 2 provided at the center of a nozzle chip 1, inclined byαdegree to the outside in its flame hole axis and byβdegree circumferentially thereof. The diameter D2 of the auxiliary flame hole is set to be 1/4 to 1/10 of the diameter D1 of the main flame hole 2 with the inclination angleα=15 to 30 degree andβ=15 to 45 degree. The length of the auxiliary flame hole 3 is set to be 5 to 15 times of the diameter D2 thereof. Why the auxiliary flame hole 3 is smaller than the main flame hole 2 as described above is that an auxiliary flame shorter than a main flame in their lengths is injected and radiation intensity of the auxiliary flame is distributed on this side of the center of a furnace. Provided the auxiliary flame hole 2 is properly selected, temperature distribution nearly equal to ideal temperature distribution is realized.
