The brewer (29) has an electric water heater (8) for producing steam for heating the drink or frothing milk for the drink. The heater is supplied from a reservoir (2) and the steam supplied to a trap (16). The reservoir compartment (82) and the steam trap compartment (81) are kept separate from each other. The steam trap outlet (80) leads directly to the brewer's steam passage (18). The heater is preferably below the reservoir's water table.
