This invention relates to the control of pests. In particular the invention rela tes to the protection of plants against parasitic nematodes. The invention provides nucleic acid comprising a transcription initiation region capable of directing expression predominantly in the roots of a plant, and a sequence which encodes an anti-nematode protein.
