A method for automatically lowering the acquisition and tracking thresholds of spread spectrum codes received in orbit by a receiver accessing an orbital navigator inside or outside the receiver, a phase loop and a code loop. The code loop for pseudo-random code tracking is "pushed" by fine speed assistance and compensates for the error between the actual speed and the calculated speed. The code loop for pseudo-random code acquisition is also "pushed" by fine speed assistance, and the search for the phase of the received code is performed around a phase prediction maintained by the fine speed assistance from the orbital navigator.
