Vehicle airbag rapid inflation device

The device has a pressurised gas container (1) with a discharge opening (3) which is sealed by a rupture or bursting disc (2) and a propulsion capsule (4), detonated to provide a propulsion gas and to break the rupture disc for the pressurised gas container. The latter and the propulsion capsule are supported within axially aligned openings (7,8) in a housing (6) with a mixing chamber (9) between them having a gas outlet (10) leading to the airbag. A pointed piston is positioned at the outlet of the propulsion capsule so that it is accelerated for breaking the rupture disc upon detonation.
