Automotive oil filter assembly

The automotive lubricating oil filter assembly has a filter housing with a cap enclosing a removable radial-flow filter insert, which separates unfiltered oil from filtered oil. The insert is located with a central pin in the central tubular filtrate chamber. The housing has an inlet for unfiltered oil, an outlet for filtered oil, and an outlet to the sump. When the cap is removed, the pin opens an oil is outlet to the sump, and closes again when replaced. The filter further incorporates a bypass valve. The cap (2) incorporates an opening (15) with a linkage assembly (13) which can be closed by a separate oil filling cap (14) and that an oil filling passage (6) is incorporated within the filter housing (1).
