Date Feb. 27, 1997A pharmaceutical composition for use in the prevention of or in the treatment of infection by yeasts of the genus Malassezia comprises a chitin soluble extract (CSE), optionally together with a suitable pharmaceutical carrier. The composition is particularly useful for the treatment and prevention of Seborrheic dermatitis. Also described is a method for treating or preventing the Seborrheic dermatitis caused by yeasts of the genus Malassezia comprising the step of topically applying the pharmaceutical composition of the invention to the area infected by or susceptible to infection by the yeasts.
