The pneumatic sphere comprises a rigid casing (11) which is oblate in its upper (11a,21a) and lower (11b) parts and has a deformable membrane (2) located inside it. The membrane defines upper (3) and lower (4) chambers. It is fixed at the junction (11c) of the upper and lower parts between a low end position and a top end position. The casing comprises a device so that the membrane in the top end position coincides with the internal surface of the upper part. This reduces to the maximum the dead volume and avoids puckering of the membrane and minimises its deformation. The ratio of the casing internal diameter (L) at the junction of its upper and lower parts and its internal height (H) is between 1.35 and 1.65.
