The filter has a closed housing (11) with inlet and outlet connections and an accommodating filter insert dividing the housing interior into two separate housings. One chamber of the housing on the protection side is connected to the inlet connection and the other on the clean side with the outlet connection. A device for disposing of the water, feeds the water from an accumulation chamber on the clean side via a suction tube (36) to the outlet connection so that it is finely mixed with the flowing cleaned fuel. The fluid flow via the suction tube is controlled by a magnet valve (48). The magnet valve is integral with the housing and is connected ahead of the suction tube. The filter has an element (23) which is flowed through axially, in the central tube (28) of which the suction tube is arranged. The magnet valve is arranged in the area of the water accumulator chamber (27) beneath the filter element.
