The system according to the invention is provided with means for adapting the deceleration/stoppage command to the varying momentary speeds of the cage which are due to varying load conditions of the cage itself. The system is also provided with means which verify the deceleration/stoppage distance of the cage at certain known speeds, which receive the average value of these distances and which, directly or after further processing, compare this value with a range of known values, outside of which the reference data relating to the oblique curve for deceleration/stoppage of the cage is automatically corrected in a proportional manner, said data being known to the electronic processor which governs operation of the system. <IMAGE>
