PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purify only cubic crystals mainly containing B, C and N, excluding hexagonal crystals by subjecting hexagonal and cubic crystals of boron carbonitride essentially containing B, C and N as main components to a specific treatment. SOLUTION: A mixture of hexagonal BCxN (x=1-50) and cubic BCxM (x=1-50), essentially containing B, C and N as main components, is brought into contact with a fluoride gas, preferably ClF3 , BrF3 , BrF5 , OF2 , NF3 , CF4 , C2 F6 to fluorinate only the hexagonal BCxN (x=1-50) and only the fluorinated product is removed. Or the mixture is brought into contact with a fluoride gas, a solvent such as water or methanol) is added to remove the suspended matter according to the water surface flotation, then the objective product is separated from the substances dissolving in the water phase as a precipitate (cubic BCxN). |
