PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wash a solid retaining part without changing a water balance of the whole device, to perform stable operation for a long time and to improve reliability. SOLUTION: When washing a solid retaining part inside a gas absorber 21 of a smoke desulfurization plant, a liquid absorbent gypsum slurry in a liquid storage part 24 is separated into a clarified liquid of <=10wt.% gypsum concentration and the other concentrate by a solid-liquid separating means 61, and the solid retaining part inside the gas absorber 21 is washed with the clarified liquid. The liquid after washing is returned again into the liquid absorbent, and also the concentrate is returned again into the liquid absorbent in the liquid storage part 24 at the same time.
