PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively carry out partial oxidation of satd. hydrocarbon at a relatively low temp. by using a catalyst for production of an oxygen-contg. org. compd. such as aldehyde by partial oxidation of satd. hydrocarbon prepd. from ruthenium oxide and an alkaline earth metal oxide. SOLUTION: This catalyst is prepd. from ruthenium oxide and an alkaline earth metal oxide. When satd. hydrocarbon is allowed to coexist with oxygen, etc., at a low temp. of <=500 deg.C in the presence of this catalyst, partial oxidation of the satd. hydrocarbon to an oxygen-contg. org. compd. can be effectively carried out. The catalyst is produced by mixing an aq. soln. of a ruthenium compd. with an aq. soln. of an alkaline earth metallic compd., evaporating the water and carrying out drying and firing at 500-800 deg.C. The alkaline earth metal is, e.g. Ca, Mg or Sr and starting material for the alkaline earth metal oxide is, e.g. an org. compd. such as acetate. |
