<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove ferrous ion and org. matter from a waste water contg. the ferrous ion and org. matter. SOLUTION: An acidic waste water contg. iron ion and org. matter is biologically treated in an iron oxidizing tank 1 with iron oxidizing bacteria to oxidize the ferrous ion to ferric ion, and a part of the org. matter in the waste water is reduced at the same time. The ferric ion is removed in a pH regulating tank 2, then the waste water is irradiated with UV 11 in the photolysis tank 3 in which a semiconductor photocatalyst 12 is clipped to decompose the org. matter remaining in the waste water by oxidation. A part of the ferrous ion is left undecomposed by controlling the pH of the oxidizing tank to 2 to 3 and the oxidation-reduction potential +450 to +550mV, and the oxidation and decomposition rate of the org. matter in the photolysis tank 3 is increased under the influence of the remaining ferrous ion.</p> |
