PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain necessary and sufficient acceleration performance when starting a vehicle even in economical travel control little in fuel consumption quantity. SOLUTION: At the time of economical travel, an up shift condition for up shifting an automatic transmission, and a lock up engaging condition for engaging a lock up clutch are same as a normal time; and a lock up opening condition; in the case where the shift stage of the automatic transmission is in the highest speed stage (a fourth speed change stage), and the lock up clutch is engaged (ON); is deviated sharply to a low vehicle speed and a high throttle valve opening side than in a normal time (thin broken line) as shown by one dotled chain line. An automatic transmission is to be retained at the highest speed stage, so far as the lock up clutch maintains an engaging condition, to make a down shift severe than the normal time (thick broken line). |
