927,047. Shearing. V. S. TALBOT. March 6, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9782/60. Class 83 (4). A shearing machine comprises two intermeshing screw profiles each rotating about its axis so that a strip of material inserted between them is drawn through and pierced as the screws rotate. Two single or multi-start squarethread screws 13 and 14 are supported in bearings 1 and driven in synchronism by gears. Strip 9 is fed from a coil 7 between rollers 3 and through the screws 13 and 14 where it is slit and portions 10 and 11 are bowed out. The bowed portions may be pressed back into the plane of the strip by rolls 4 and the flattened strip coiled on a spindle 6. The slits 18 formed in the strip may extend to one edge. The strip may be rolled along its two edges to form a gap between the slits.
|
