The present invention relates a method to place and to align work pieces (I-VI), particularly one or more metal plates which are going to be joined, against at least to a butt (6, 9) which implies to transmit a position signal, preferably an electric signal, between work piece (I-VI) and butt (5, 9), and using work piece and butt as signal transmitters.
