The present invention provides economical local remote switches for a power distribution disconnect apparatus so that an operator is physically separated from the switches by a distance of up to two hundred feet or more. Thus, personnel can operate switches in complete safety, eliminating the need for elaborate safety procedures and providing very substantial labor savings. Any person, regardless of strength and skill, can be a switch operator with minimum training. Whereas at present, line crews equipped with expensive machinery, such as bucket trucks, frequently do manual switching, by using the local remote system a single individual driving as a small automobile can do the switching.
