Phased array antenna e.g. for radar or communication applications

The antenna includes a sweep control unit which generates signals for phase and amplitude control of radiators in a number of transceiver modules. A frequency converter transmits the HF radiator signals at IF for reception. A/D converters convert the received IF signals to digital form, with the digitised signals transmitted. A beam former produces a beam by weighting the signals from the A/D converters as a function of the external weight. The signals are then added and transmitted. An arithmetic processing unit detects the amplitudes and phases of the HF synthesised signals from the radiators after data are extracted from element signals.
